The Battlefield Manga Series is a collection of manga shorts based on the battles of World War II. Some of the material was used for the creation of The Cockpit OVA. A few stories have even featured the ancestors of characters including Captain Harlock and Tochiro Oyama.
Publishing and Content

A majority of the original stories have been published in either Weekly Shonen Sunday or Big Comic Original save for the first which was published in Play Comics. A few of the stories were collected in formats such as Arcadia of My Youth (for the Sunday series) or The Cockpit (for the more mature Big Comic series) with a few minor changes.
Not all of the content is historically accurate as the pieces were written purely for the sake of entertainment and drama. A few stories even bring up a prototype weapon of some kind, usually involving Toshiro Oyama.
